From September 2013 onwards, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick will offer an innovative new postgraduate programme, the M.Oid san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge. The programme will focus on the specific needs for the professional development and linguistic proficiency of teachers in Gaeltacht schools and in all-Irish schools. For the first time in Ireland, there will be a postgraduate programme with a series of modules which will be integrated, consecutive and interrelated to cater specifically for immersion educators and other professionals working in the field of Irish medium education.
The M.Oid san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge will be a part time course provided over two academic years. Blended learning will be a central part of the course which will be provided on line as well as on site. Outreach provision will be provided depending on the needs of the students. As a result of the blended approach and the design of the programme, researchers and international experts will be present. They will discuss results and specific questions in the fields of immersion education, bilingual education and the second language online, with the students on the programme.
Up to 20 people will be accepted onto the programme for the academic year 2013/2014. Comhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochtaí (COGG) will present research bursaries on the 2013 cohort. Applications will be accepted up to the 31st of May 2013.
