There were great celebrations at Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada in Lucan recently as the school’s new building was officially opened.
Bernard Dunne, the famous boxer and passionate Gaeilgeoir, was there on the day to cut the red ribbon. He spoke to pupils and their parents about the importance of the language. Bernard said that if someone like him – who has had so many hits to the head – can learn Irish then anyone can learn Irish!
Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada was set up in 2005. The school started out with 26 pupils; there are 430 pupils attending the school this year.
Each class group did a presentation for the audience and parents who weren’t able to make it on the day had the opportunity to tune in online.
The school choir brought the opening ceremony to an end. They sang Adele and Bruno mars song through Irish. Afterwards, a big party was held in the school hall and parents had a chance to look at their children’s work.
The school’s principal, Damhnait Uí Ruairc said the pupils thought it was the best the at school ever!
