The community of Gaelscoil Longfoirt had every reason to feel joy and pride, on the 7th of February as they celebrated 15 years with special guest Seán-Óg Ó hAilpín.
In 1998, Gaelscoil Longfoirt first opened its doors with a 20 pupils. After fifteen years of growth and development it has increased it’s student population to 210, all of whom are receiving the highest level of education.
Speaking at the event, the Principal of Gaelscoil Longfoirt , Yvonne Ní Mhurchú, said:
“It brings me great happiness as Principal to see all of the schools progress being celebrated. Parents, Board of Management, teachers, students and the entire school community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the dedication and support you have all invested into the school.
“We recognise the work of Friends of the School (the Parents Committee) ,who have given so much support to Gaelscoil Longfoirt from day one ,and who still give their support to this day.
“Their efforts to raise funds for the school have helped shape Gaelscoil Longfoirt into the school it is today. To Pádraig Ó Céileachair ,chairperson of the Board of Management, and to the entire board, thank you for your support and dedication.”
Gaelscoil Longfoirt’s achievements and extra-curricular activities were celebrated on the day including playing the Tin Whistle, Swimming, Computers, Basketball, Football and Hurling. A big thanks was given also to St. Vincent de Paul for their efforts with the Breakfast Club. Gaelscoil Longfoirt was congratulated for achieving two An Taisce Green Flags.
As part of the celebration, Sean-Óg ó hAilpín launched Gaelscoil Longfoirt’s new website (www.gaelscoillongfoirt.ie) and Facebook page. The new website offers parents plenty of information and a range of various links.
A tree was planted in the school Garden to mark the occasion and also a cake cutting ceremony took place. Everyone both young and old really enjoyed the festivities held in the Flipeadóirí Club in Longford later that day.
