The community of Gaelscoil Longfoirt had every reason to feel joy and pride, on the 7th of February as they celebrated 15 years with special guest Seán-Óg Ó hAilpín.
In 1998, Gaelscoil Longfoirt first opened its doors with a 20 pupils. After fifteen years of growth and development it has increased it’s student population to 210, all of whom are receiving the highest level of education.
Speaking at the event, the Principal of Gaelscoil Longfoirt , Yvonne Ní Mhurchú, said:
“It brings me great happiness as Principal to see all of the schools progress being celebrated. Parents, Board of Management, teachers, students and the entire school community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the dedication and support you have all invested into the school.
“We recognise the work of Friends of the School (the Parents Committee) ,who have given so much support to Gaelscoil Longfoirt from day one ,and who still give their support to this day.
“Their efforts to raise funds for the school have helped shape Gaelscoil Longfoirt into the school it is today. To Pádraig Ó Céileachair ,chairperson of the Board of Management, and to the entire board, thank you for your support and dedication.”
Gaelscoil Longfoirt’s achievements and extra-curricular activities were celebrated on the day including playing the Tin Whistle, Swimming, Computers, Basketball, Football and Hurling. A big thanks was given also to St. Vincent de Paul for their efforts with the Breakfast Club. Gaelscoil Longfoirt was congratulated for achieving two An Taisce Green Flags.
As part of the celebration, Sean-Óg ó hAilpín launched Gaelscoil Longfoirt’s new website (www.gaelscoillongfoirt.ie) and Facebook page. The new website offers parents plenty of information and a range of various links.
A tree was planted in the school Garden to mark the occasion and also a cake cutting ceremony took place. Everyone both young and old really enjoyed the festivities held in the Flipeadóirí Club in Longford later that day.

Thosaigh Gaelscoil Longfoirt le 20 scoláire i 1998 agus leis an bhfás agus forbairt le cúig bhliain déag anuas tá 210 páiste ag baint amach ardchaighdéan oideachais ann.
Ag labhairt ag an ócáid dúirt Yvonne Ní Mhurchú, Príomhoide Ghaelscoil Longfoirt: “Cuireann sé an-áthas orm mar Phríomhoide an dul chun cinn atá déanta ag an scoil a cheiliúradh. Gabhaim buíochas ó chroí leis na tuismitheoirí, leis an mbord bainistíochta, leis na múinteoirí, leis na daltaí agus le pobal uile na scoile as a ndíograis agus a dtacaíocht i gcónaí.
“Aithnímid chomh maith Cairde na Scoile (Cumann na dTuismitheoirí) a thacaigh le Gaelscoil Longfoirt ón gcéad lá agus a thugann tacaíocht leanúnach dúinn. Cabhraíonn a n-iarrachtaí tiomsaithe airgid agus tacaíocht le dul chun cinn na scoile. Is mór againn chomh maith tacaíocht agus díograis leanúnach an Bhoird Bainistíochta faoi stiúir Phádraig Ó Céileachair.”
Rinneadh ceiliúradh ar éachtaí agus imeachtaí seach-churaclaim Ghaelscoil Longfoirt le linn na hócáide ina n-áirítear Feadóg Stáin, Snámh, Ríomhairí, Cispheil, Peil agus Iománaíocht. Gabhadh buíochas ó chroí le Cumann Naomh Uinseann de Pól as a n-iarrachtaí leis an gClub Bricfeasta. Rinneadh comhghairdeas le Gaelscoil Longfoirt as gnóthú an dá Bhrat Glas ag An Taisce.
Mar chuid den cheiliúradh, sheol Seán-Óg suíomh idirlín úr Ghaelscoil Longfoirt (www.gaelscoillongfoirt.ie) agus an leathanach Facebook. Tá an suíomh nua lán le heolas do thuismitheoirí agus naisc éagsúla dóibh chomh maith.
Cuireadh crann i nGairdín na Scoile chun an ócáid a cheiliúradh agus gearradh cáca ceiliúrtha mar chuid d’imeachtaí an lae. Bhain gach duine idir óg agus aosta an-taitneamh as soláistí i gClub Flipeadóirí Longfoirt ina dhiaidh.
