Representatives of An Foras Pátrúnachta and Gaelcholaiste an Phiarsaigh recently had the opportunity to visit Loreto Abbey, the building where Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh will reside. (Above centre, Joe Mac Suibhne, principal of the new school with members of the Board of Management.)
Loreto Abbey is located on Grange Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14. Formerly a private school, the building was purchased by the Department of Education and Skills for Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh. The school will open its doors at the end of the summer. First year pupils only will start in the school for the 2014/2015 school year.
“I was delighted to have the opportunity to pay a visit to Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh’s new building today,” said Caoimhín Ó hEaghra, General Secretary of An Foras Pátrúnachta (above right with Lorcán Mac Gabhann, Chairperson of the school’s Board of Management.)
“It is evident that there was and will be an excellent educational institution here. Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsaigh is on the Department’s 5 year building plan and as a result, the renovation of the entire building will commence this summer.
“There is a strong link between the Irish language and the Irish medium education in this area, with the Pearse museum just up the road, a place where Pádráig Mac Piarais ran Coláiste Éanna from 1910 to 1916.
“We are very happy to promote the Irish language and the Irish culture through this school for generations to come.”
