A large crowd was in attendance to see boxing hero, Bernard Dunne, officially open Gaelscoil na Guise.
Everyone was delighted to see the red ribbon being cut.
The newly appointed mayor of South Dublin , Fintan Warfield was at the occasion to say a few words.
“It is a great honour for me to be here in Gaelscoil na Giúise today. I am very well aware of the large community of Irish speakers in the area and it is great that a Gaelscoil has been founded in the area to meet the demand for education through the medium of Irish.Gaelscoil na Giúise also being a multidenominational school will appeal to a wider section of the community.
“I am also aware of your search for a permanent site for the school and that it is urgent that the Department acquire a site for the school without delay, I as Mayor will fully support you in this endeavour.”
The school principal, Fionnuala Ní Riain, thanked everyone for coming.
Gaelscoil na Giúise temporally resides in the Firhouse community centre. The school has gone from strength to strength since enrolling its first class of junior infants in September 2013.
“Today’s great turn out shows the support and demand for Irish Medium education in this area,” said Caoimhín Ó hEaghra, General Secretary of An Foras Pátrúnachta.”
“An Foras Pátrúnachta are looking forward to providing a permanent site and building for the school as soon as possible in cooperation with the Department of Education.”
