An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, visited Gaelscoil na Cruaiche in Mayo recently to raise an anti-bullying flag.
Gaelscoil na Cruaiche is the first school in the country to achieve this flag, ‘The Blue Shield Flag’.
The flag recognises schools who have strong and effective anti-bullying policies.
As part of the programme, Gaelscoil na Cruaiche held an anti-bullying awareness week and appointed an anti-bullying coordinator.
School principal, Mairéad Ní Ruáin, said the school had carried out work with the ISPCC to develop an atmosphere where all children feel safe and secure.
The Taoiseach praised the school community at the event: “This flag is a testament to their positive action and determination to ensure a safe and secure school environment for all children and is a great example for all schools to follow to combat bullying,” he said.
