A large crowd gathered together ag Gaelscoil Dhroichead na Banndan in Cork recently to celebrate the official opening of the schools new building. Jim Daly TD. And Michael McCarthy TD. were amongst those who attended.
This is the first time since the school was founded in 1995 that it has a permanent building on its own site.
The school’s principal, Sean Ó Láimhín, showed the new classrooms, the learning support room, the resource room and the computer room to the guests.
The school’s pupils provided excellent entertainment on the day – senior infants performed their own version of ‘Goldilocks’, while children from other classes danced, sang and read poems.
The Mayor of Bandon, Gillian Coughlan, cut the ribbon and Fr Myles McSweeney and Reverend Denis McCarthy blessed the school.
Caoimhín Ó hEaghra, General Secretary of An Foras Pátrúnachta, pulled back the curtain to show the school’s plaque to the crowd.
According to Ó hEaghra, Gaelscoil Dhroichead na mBanndan is a great example of the demand there is for Gaelscoileanna around the country and the benefits of education through Irish.
